Why Walmart is a Mainstay for RV Nomads
Walmart has become a mainstay of my nomad life.
Before 2020 when I started out on the road I maybe, I mean, MAYBE, went to Walmart 10 times in my 50 years here on Earth.
I didn’t like Walmart. Walmart was cheaply made items, tons of people and tiny isles – that made the crowds and cheaply made items even more irritating since I couldn’t escape quickly if needed.
My introvert soul despised Walmart. And anyway, I was a Target girl.
Since I hit the road full time in 2020 I think I’ve been to Walmart 10 times a month!
Why the Shift from Hating Walmart to Loving?
One, Walmart is everywhere! And usually right off the freeway. When you drive a large vehicle that matters. I’ve had to navigate a few cities here and there in my travels; city roads are no fun in an RV. If I can get groceries and a few other necessities a mile or so off the freeway you bet I’m choosing that store.
Also, if you’ve seen or read anything about the nomadic lifestyle or you are a nomad, you know very well some Walmarts let you stay overnight in their parking lots. This has been invaluable to me since there have been times I had nowhere to stay except an expensive RV park.
Walmart has certainly become one of my go-to nomad resources. (I still like Target more.)
This Amarillo Walmart provided me a safe parking lot to rest the night before I went in to shop. Here’s my trip to Walmart for a few needed items.
