Where Do You Park Your RV on Route 66 in Seligman Arizona?

Staying on Route 66 in Seligman Arizona

At a famous motel, of course!

8.19.22 Route 66, Seligman, AZ

The famous, historic ROUTE 66 weaves through this tiny town called Seligman in Arizona. I’ve traveled up and down Interstate 40 in Arizona numerous times in my RV in the last couple of years and I would always see the signs for Seligman yet never bothered to check it out. This time I decided to cruise Route 66 to Seligman!

Driving Route 66 from Kingman to Seligman Arizona

This time I actually drove Route 66 from Kingman to Seligman. I hafta say, it’s a pleasant drive. No semi trucks and the speed limit is well below that of Interstate 40, which Route 66 in this region almost parallels. I love cruising the backroads so this worked out great for me.

I had no intention of actually stopping in Seligman, I was simply taking a back road and alternative to the big Interstate. Yet as I cruised through I felt the urge to stop. Ok, it was really hot, I was tired and for some reason a joint called “Road Kill Café” sounded super yummy!

I parked Minnie Rambles (my RV) in the wrong parking lot at the Historic Route 66 Motel. I don’t know how that happened, I think the café and the motel looked like they were attached on my way into town. And, well, since I was in their parking lot I figured I’d get a room.

First Things First, I Needed to Eat – Road Kill?

Holy crap was the food amazing at Road Kill Café. And just to ease your mind, there is no roadkill being cooked here, just a menu full of funny names based on different types of roadkill. (No, I don’t find roadkill humorous but there is humor in the names on the menu.)

I got myself some baby back ribs with fries. YUM!! There was a lot, too much for me to finish, so I took much of the dinner back to my RV fridge for some leftover dining at a later date.

Sleeping in a Historic Motel on Route 66

With a very full belly I headed to my room.

This motel is cool, and historical! Many of the rooms boast having a star of some sort from the 1950’s and 60’s eras TV, movie or music industries. It was a time when Interstate 40 didn’t exist yet in Arizona and many weary travelers, including famous people, would stop over in Seligman.

My room? I was very excited to stay where the Comets from Bill Haley’s Comets stayed! If you’re unfamiliar with who they are look up the theme song for the TV show “Happy Days”. They were a big deal and I love their music!

The room felt a little outdated but that’s part of the charm, making it feel like you’re lost in time when Route 66 was in its heyday. Though outdated it was very clean and had modern amenities like a foam bed, WIFI and big screen TV. I slept very well that night.

Well rested I was able to drive to the Kaibab forest near the Grand Canyon for more fun and adventure in the woods. And maybe a side trip to that big hole in the ground.
