RV Traveler Finds Secret Waterfall

female rv nomad vlog and blog

Hi! I’m Allie and I sold everything in 2020 to live solo in my RV full time. Traveling the United States, I camp mostly in public lands for free as I hike, bike and seek out quiet spots in nature.

Have you ever wanted to find a secret place that others aren’t aware of? Kinda like in the classic book the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe? Sure, that’s a children’s book and fantasy, we outgrow that wish as we age. But do we?

A Delightful Surprise While Hiking in Colorado

I stumbled across what felt like a secret waterfall in Colorado. It was an absolutely delightful find thinking at first I was on just a simple trail that lead to a river below. Yet it lead to a very loud, rushing waterfall!

Ok, it wasn’t truly secret. It just isn’t listed on Google Maps or AllTrails, the apps I use to find places to explore. And, well, there were people there, but just 2.

The trailhead is not marked but I got the feeling something was going on in the general vicinity since there were vehicles parked nearby. The only true indication there exists a trail is the gap in the tall grasses that lead down the canyon.

To this day I still don’t know what the trail and waterfall are called, I just know it was a cool hike, no literally, it was in the cool shade.

It’s not a long hike but the steep grade of the trail would probably consider the path a bit strenuous at times but overall moderate. And it’s a short trail, less than a mile down.

The plants at times were overgrown on the trail, which always reminds me that I forgot to put tick repellent on. Luckily, no ticks at the end of the hike.

As I approached the waterfall, which I didn’t realize I was doing that, I walked along a cliff wall above. Then I heard the roar! I knew there was a river below but not a waterfall?! How exciting!

Thinking I was alone I continued to move towards the roar when a dog greeted me – wet, excited and barking (not aggressively). That’s when I saw a couple climbing the wall. I greeted them and pet both their dogs. A little bit of chit chat about the trail and how beautiful it’s been lead to them asking me if I saw the waterfall. “No” I replied inquisitively. “Yup, just walk right around the corner.” “Thanks” with excitement in my voice and headed down the path.

And there it was, not tall but very strong (like some men I’ve dated, lol), rushing through a large gap in the rock. It was cool and refreshing!

Don’t You Just Love Waterfall Hikes?

Especially unexpected ones.

I took in the cool breeze the falls created as well as the beauty of the rushing, meandering river below and headed back to camp.

Not to be outdone by the waterfall, the mountains gave me a view I could watch for hours, especially at sunset!

Thank You for Stopping By!
