RV Camping in Beautiful Mancos Colorado

RV travel mancos colorado COVER

My name is Allie and I’ve lived full-time in my Class C Minnie Winnie RV since July 2020.  I hit the road in search of free land to rest my tires and head as well as for adventure!  I love to hike, kayak and even attempt to ride my Dual Sport Yamaha XT250.  Since starting my new life I have found the most joy in meeting all the amazing people out here!  So many stories, so little time!

Warm days in Colorado called me outdoors that July of 2020. Arizona, my homebase, was experiencing its Monsoon season, these storms were a little too intense for me to weather the outdoors alone so I headed to Colorado.

Last you saw me I hiked the hills of Overend Mountain in Durango, CO.  The windy single track trail there seemed to be made for mountain bikers, not hikers, but made for some great hiking!  The track for mountain bikers varies from trails made for hikers in that they tend to have steeper slopes and more twists and turns – I like to compare them to roller coasters but in dirt.  Hiking a single track mountain bike track surely gives you a different experience as a hiker when I’m used to slopes and twists that are not so pronounced.

Mancos Colorado RVing and Cruisin’ Downtown for Breakfast

After my hike I headed to the little town of Mancos, CO.

I found an RV park there that served as a resting place as well as a location I could catch up on laundry, charging my devises and cleaning the RV.  RV parks will have hookups for your motorhome like water, gray and black water dump and electricity.  Staying in an RV park after boondocking feels like a small slice of being in a home.  I can even make coffee with my Kuerig without turning on the generator!!

Starting my morning early (6 AM) at the Riverwood RV Resort, I made myself some fried breakfast potatoes with eggs and bacon.  I completed my “chores” of laundry and dumping the day before, now I could head out to town to explore and maybe get a great cup of coffee!

Stepping outside my RV I was able to fully realize that I was in a beautiful location!  I literally parked 20 feet from the Mancos River!  It doesn’t get much better than that when camping!

Mancos is a tiny town with some cool older buildings, including it’s old brick school.  It’s surrounding residential area is not paved and residents were eager to say good morning to me as I rode my bike through town!  I explored town a bit then stopped for 2nd breakfast at the Absolute Cafe & Bakery.

I stopped in Mancos during the Covid Pandemic.  I was very aware that someone from outside of town may not be too welcome, for good reason, so I made sure I stayed in the cafe just long enough to film, order and head back outside, wearing a face mask and touching only the food bag I was handed.

Traveling during the Pandemic is tricky.  On one hand travel should not occur for fear of spread yet on the other hand, the very few times I set foot inside an establishment I took all necessary precautions as well as reminded myself that many of the small businesses I was supporting needed the income to keep afloat.

Grabbing my pastry and sandwich from the bakery I headed to also get some fresh brewed coffee at Fahrenheit Coffee Roasters – BEST COFFEE I’VE HAD IN YEARS!

I cycled back to my RV for some ass on lounge chair, eat my pastry and drink my coffee time.

Mancos and the Riverwood RV Resort were a lovely stop during my maiden voyage!
