Nomad Journal : Palo Duro State Park Texas

nomad midlife journey

Welcome! I’m Allie. I’ve lived in my RV since July 2020 to feel the freedom of the road as well as to hike and bike. Below is an entry from my personal journal. Sometimes you don’t get the true essence of a person or their life journey until you can read their private thoughts. Here ya go!

November 1, 2022 Palo Duro State Park, Texas

I arrived yesterday at this beautiful park that features a canyon they say it rivals the Grand Canyon yet, frankly, I don’t see it at all.

Yesterday I hiked the Lighthouse Trail. It’s 2.8 miles out and 2.8 miles back a great hiking distance. I’m a bit sore today since it’s been a while since I’ve hiked but I’ll stretch some of it out. I met a couple that is doing route 66 from Chicago. I told him they need to hit Roadkill Café in Seligman, Arizona. She said it’s on her list along the way and others had mentioned it before.

After the trail I headed to the campground I reserved for the night. I’m in the Mesquite campground at site number 95. There’s electric and water hook ups here so I took advantage – took a good shower, washed my hiking shorts, made drinking water and ice and I charge everything I can think of.

There’s a ton of flies here! At any given time at least 20 on my screen door – it’s gross! And I need to be super fast coming in and out of the screen door. Managed to only get three inside one is still lingering but I got the others with the fly swatter.

I like the camp, we’re not all on top of each other and it’s pretty down here in the canyon. Most of the trails are for hiking and mountain biking. I’m going to try my skills this morning a bit with the mountain bike. I miss riding so much!

It was warm all night. I slept in shorts and a long sleeve short with the window cracked! Sure felt good not to be frozen!

I have no cell service down here in the canyon. I am jonesing for Instagram and it’s only been 24 hours. LOL. But I also like the solitude to be able to gather my thoughts and clear my mind later today I’ll catch up once I leave the park.
