Kenosha Pass to Random Camp//71.4 – 85.4 Segment 6

Colorado Trail : Georgia Pass Here We Come!

Just about a week or so before we (Me, Steph and Candace) started at Kenosha Pass and headed NOBO to complete the first 6 segments on the Colorado Trail. With this start at Kenosha Pass again, we official go SOBO, like most thru-hikers do on the CT (Colorado Trail).

We also added 2 new backpacking buddies with us for this leg – Candace’s hubby, Brent, and their 10 yo old son, Blake. I’ve never hiked in a larger group and it was fun – more hiking partner options to choose from, lol. Plus singing, dancing and laughing our way up the mountain made for a much more enjoyable time as we huffed and puffed our way up.

Winding our way up through the forest and eventually up and over Georgia Pass!! What a climb to 11,598′ but all worth the views!!!

The vastness of this land I hike is freeing! Knowing there are still spaces for us to get to that aren’t paved or full of crowds makes my heart warm.

We rested at the top for a bit, taking in the breeze, enjoying a snack and chit chatting with other hikers. Once we got our fill we headed down the mountain to find a place to camp.

Once camp was set up and a chill began to engulf us, I made mac and cheese for dinner. I never thought of mac and cheese on trail yet a few days previous Blake had it for dinner, it looked so creamy and yummy! The first thing I looked for on my zero day at the grocery store was mac and cheese. It was a great night once I stuffed my belly with comfort food. (Did I mention there were bacon bits in it? Steph gave me that idea. Yum!)

I couldn’t have asked for a better hiking day of gorgeous flowers, views, streams, trees and great company!
