AM I DONE WITH THE COLORADO TRAIL?
This was my longest hike so far at 19 miles and little did I know that morning, it was my last day on trail.
That morning was cold, I couldn’t warm up and, go figure, I dropped my gloves in my RV recently since I never used them on trail so far and to save on weight.
My hands were so cold and I couldn’t warm up.
Steph to the rescue! She let me use her gloves since she didn’t need them. I wore them until the sun peaked over the mountain and warmed us.
That morning was my first time on this trail hearing a pack of coyotes greeting the sun! It was such a beautiful melody to hear!
Just before that we came across a couple on horseback! I never thought much about horses growing up outside Los Angeles but I’ve grown to appreciate their beauty and intelligence as I see them on trail.
We walked through a beautiful meadow full of flowers, butterflies, and birds! Then through cool forest to finish 19 miles for the day!
About 1/2 way through this day my head quit on me. I couldn’t hike more trees and mountain passes anymore.
The trail looked the same everyday and I felt there was no reward to the end of each day.
Unfortunately, I decided to stop this thru-hike. I felt very selfish for taking Steph off trail as well, I’m her hiking partner and should be there for her even when I’m having a hard time.
Steph handled my bad situation and my attitude with grace and understanding. We agreed to section hike the CT when we could in the future.
