Boondock Camping and Hiking in Prescott Arizona

April 2022 Prescott, Arizona

Leaving Sedona, Arizona we cruised the Minnie Winnie southwest about 70 miles to Prescott, Arizona.

Did you know Prescott, Arizona is pronounced like “Presskit”?

When I first moved to Arizona from California, after selling my home in the Bay Area, I gave Prescott a lot of consideration as a location I may want to purchase a home. As you know, I decided to purchase and live in an RV instead but I still wanted to visit Prescott.

Beautiful Dispersed Camping in the Prescott Forest Arizona

There’s an abundance of boondocking in the Prescott Forest but not all of it is RV friendly. We ended up at Trittle Mountain Road Designated Dispersed site number 3. It was a bit unlevel, ok, a lot, but nothing leveling blocks can’t solve.

Arriving on April 18 we joyfully welcomed pine trees and mountain air! We had spent many months wintering in the Arizona deserts that when spring arrives there is certainly a celebration of finding camps at higher elevations.

John and I have setting up camp down to a quick process of maybe 20 minutes inside and outside, taking out our comforts that were packed away safely for moving our home.

We settled in, took a walk (finding that there were more sites down the road just as great as the one we were in) and chilled for the rest of the evening. Tomorrow was a hike day!

Hiking the Prescott Forest in Arizona

Another great thing about this dispersed camping area is the abundance of hiking around! Just a couple miles down the road we found Spruce Mountain Trail.

This is about a 7 mile out and back hike that gradually climbs to a manned fire lookout.

With the sun shining and not a cloud in the sky, John and I enjoyed the shady trail and some bird watching, always trying to guess the type of bird. Some flowers had decided to try to make a go of the warmer weather which always makes spring such a special time of year for being outdoors.

The climb takes a while yet like most accents it was worth it! Once you get to the top there’s a short trail to the fire lookout tower and views for miles!

Despite the long range views we didn’t see what was going just a few miles away from us in the forest that would cause some of the worst stress I’ve felt in years!

Read the next post to find out what was so stressing.
