2020.
Most would say it was the worst year they ever lived. I don’t blame them. Social and political strife dominated the headlines. And Covid wreaked havoc on the world.
My 2020 started out pretty tough. I had recently lost my job to startup layoffs and my beloved dog Maggy passed after a strong fight with cancer. I was a divorced, empty-nester, living with my retired mom and her husband. My 2020 was looking kinda dark.
Yet along the way I decided to not let life or naysayers take me down with them.
I managed to have one of the best years of my life!
This is my Instagram post about it. And the text is below the image.
2020 was a good year for me.
❤️It was the year I renewed relationships with my kids, family members and old friends.
🏜⛰The year I hiked 100’s of miles in AZ, CA and Colorado.
🐶The year the best hiking pal a gal could have passed away in my arms after a strong battle with cancer. I’ll always miss you Maggy dog!
🥾The year I started hiking the AZT but stopped due to the pandemic. This was my first attempted thru-hike and backpacking trip!
😀The year I met Jan and David, my AZT partners. Along with SO MANY other amazing hikers and RVers!
🚐The year I bought my RV and started living in it full-time.
🏍The year I bought a motorcycle with absolutely no experience riding one.
☀️My year for the best sunsets and sunrises.
👍🏻The year I
-slept outside with coyotes yipping all night
-was hailed on in August in CO
-learned to backpack
-traveled 1000’s of miles alone
-I witnessed the Milky Way for the first time (since I can remember)
-I lived slower
-smiled too much
-made big mistakes
-laughed hard
-cried hard
-LIVED
It was the year I stayed safe from weirdos and Covid.
I took CALCULATED RISKS that paid off.
THE YEAR I FINALLY DIDN’T LET NAYSAYERS INTO MY HEAD.
I let go and lived MY LIFE!
Happy Trails! ❤️🏜⛰

I wish everyone and anyone reading this post a wonderful 2021! Live YOUR life. Don’t let naysayers f*ck with your head. Just Do It! Take CALCULATED RISKS.
LET GO.
Cheers!
Love ya, Allie
I like the reference to calculated risks!
I hope you learn to love to wheels as much as I do. There’s something to be said for the open road. In the middle of a start up of a small business based on travel, I have to keep reminding myself that there’s a reason the windshield is so big and the rearview mirror is so small!
